This time the songs are about everything from Andy Warhol’s Fifteen Minutes of Fame to Ingrid & Lillebror, Muhammad Ali, Ole Olsen and roast duck. Again, it all happens in Danish. Thus, Mike Tramp shows that it was not for fun when, to the surprise of most, he released a record in his mother tongue after more than 45 years of singing in English. The Danish songs are a way of telling some of the stories and sharing the experiences that have been gathered together throughout his life. “Many of those I meet at my concerts have always followed me, and we have almost grown up together. White Lion and Freak Of Nature frontman.
"I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been asked. That if I could do it all over again, what would I change? It’s a tricky question and for an artist, sometimes an unfair one. Because when we looked back, hindsight is always 20/20 and we know it all, and familiar with the Monday morning quarterback scenario, where everyone knows where he should have thrown the ball or kicked it. What the hell did I know when I walked into the recording studio the first time in 1976 to record my first album? The answer is nothing, and I can honestly admit, it didn’t really change 10 years or 20 years later on. With every album I recorded or every tour I finished I always came home with so much more knowledge than when I started it, and always wished I’d known it all at the beginning. I often listen to my many previous solo albums and say to myself I should have sung it this way or changed the melody that way. At the same time, I accept that it was the best I could do at that moment! I worked with what I had and knew. This life doesn’t often give you a Second Time Around, but if it does - consider yourself lucky and grab it. The songs on “Second Time Around” have been with me for a long, long time. I remember writing the first song “When She Cries”, October 2, 2005 the day after my daughter Isabel had been born. It was like a whole new door opened and all these songs came out over the next few months along with a whole other bunch of songs, which have all ended up on different albums. You can say it was the most
creative time in my 44 years in the rock’n’roll uniform.
Still it was also a time where I was floating around between good and bad and didn’t know where I should go with my career. I was very confused and had no one in my life I could trust to guide me. Should I follow the idea of a new version of White Lion, which at that time I was in the middle of and kept me awake all night and many times left me with so much regret and shame? Or should I continue with what I had started in 1996, when I recorded my first solo album “Capricorn” and became a solo artist, and by 2005 had a total of four solo albums behind me that actually told me, it is clear who Mike Tramp is as an artist. But very unusual for Mike Tramp, I was lost and could not find anything to hold on to. My second child had just been born, life was suddenly different, and my rock’n’roll world was changing faster than I could run.
The songs on “Second Time Around” are some of my favorite compositions, and for many years I have gone around with a feeling that they were never given a real chance. I have missed them in my live shows and I have missed singing them. So when I made the decision to rebuild and resurrect this bunch of songs, with the help of my trusted brothers in rock’n’roll who have all been a part of my last seven solo albums in different ways, it was truly a chance to go for a “Second Time Around”, and this time I grabbed it, clear in my mind and focused like never before. A great moment of embracing that the songs I have written always clearly expresses who Mike Tramp is.
I am proud of these songs. They are like my other albums and 100% representation of who Mike Tramp is. If aliens came down to earth and happened to pick up “Second Time Around” as the first Mike Tramp album they heard, I would be truly proud and confident that all of my DNA, would be in this album". Two years later the band dissolved, and Deathstrike was formed after a failed search for a guitar player for Master! First Deathstrike, and then Master recorded their influential demos respectively! A recording contract was eventually secured between Master and Nuclear Blast and in 1989 Speckmann (vocals, bass) along with Chris Mittelbrun (guitar) and Bill Schmidt (drums) recorded their debut album in Solid Sound Studios, but things didn’t go quite as planned. “Markus Staiger, the label boss for Nuclear Blast, decided he didn’t like the production of the soon to be released self-titled Master album!”, Paul Speckmann recalls. “So after a few brief conversations it was agreed upon from all parties that we would go to Morrisound Studios in Florida and record the album again, with a new line-up featuring myself, Aaron Nickeas from Abomination on drums and Jim Martinelli from Burnt Offering on guitar, and add some additional songs. Legendary producer Scott Burns produced the new recording and after it was sent to Nuclear Blast it was once again rejected – for being too polished! So in the end Burns remixed the previous recordings from Chicago and that was released as the Master debut album. So what inspired Paul Speckmann to do a second Speckmann Project album in 2021? “Rogga felt that the many collaborations we did with the Johansson & Speckmann project were sadly not given the attention they deserved. Rogga and I have recorded several excellent albums together that have gone mostly unnoticed by the general public! So maybe the press as well as the fans would relate better to the Speckmann name alone”, Speckmann reasons.
The music is written by Rogga while Paul Speckmann has penned all of the lyrics, but the riffs and arrangements are exactly what we’ve come to expect from a pure Speckmann-product. The songs on this album have that thrashing punk-aggression to it and Rogga has clearly learnt how to write in a style that very well mimics the old-school fury of the early Speckmann-works. “Rogga is an excellent and experienced songwriter, but as for being a mimic in this sense, I must explain”, Speckmann acclaims. “When Rogga approached me regarding this revival project, it was basically in name only. What I mean is that Rogga said he would write an old school record for me to sing. In my opinion, Kam Lee, Chuck Shuldiner, and I took the anvil and forged the way for a new genre of music, influencing the Scandinavians, the British, as well as the Americans with this new direction. So obviously the influences of early death metal – as they went on to call it – are here, but the songs are shorter and to the point where the first Speckmann Project release had some long and and drawn-out lengthy tracks!”
Three decades may have passed, but as far as lyrical themes not much has changed according to Paul Speckmann. “The themes are always the same in all the bands that I am involved in; anti-religion, anti-government and genuinely just believing in yourself and trusting your own instincts! I believe in freedom, although as the years go by steps are being continually taken to these freedoms and turn the world into machines working for the betterment of the wealthy and influential!”
With the first album having such an elaborate origin story, one might wonder how “Fiends Of Emptiness” was recorded and came into being? “We recorded the album rather quickly. Rogga always surrounds himself with the best musicians so he found the additional killer players, Kjetil Lynghaug (solo guitar) and Jon Rudin (drums), and recorded with them Then he sent me the completed recordings and I entered Shaark Studios here in the Czech Republic and recorded the vocals with the lyrics I had written. I usually sing two songs per week over a six week period. Then the mixes are done in Norway and we discuss the mixes and take it from there! I hope one day to be able to record the complete project together in a studio in Sweden. Fingers crosses that this will one day come to fruition!”
The second Speckmann Project album, entitled “Fiends Of Emptiness”, will hit the airwaves like a sledgehammer in 2022 and according to Paul Speckmann we will not have to wait another 30 years for the next one after that! “I have signed a contract for two releases with Emanzipation in Denmark and off-shoot of the Target Group! So in 2023 we will record yet another release, my friend!”

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0974/6500/8471/files/Speckmann-Project-Fiends-Of-Emptiness-CD-118663-1-1643702409.jpg?v=1778105078
iniquity-grime-lp-coloured
Iniquity - Grime - LP COLOURED

Side A :
Tides Of Vengeance / The Bullet’s Breath / Border Into Shadow / Bloodletting / Spawn Of The Abscess

Side B :
Thawed For Breeding / Stygian / The Last Incantation / Poets Of The Trench / Part 2

For fans of Nile, Morbid Angel, classic old school Death Metal.
Short-lived and intense. Such was the career of the Danish technical death metal export number one band of the late 90s, Iniquity. They did help define the “Scandivanian sound” in extreme metal – and particularly of death metal – since their debut album “Serenadium” in 1996 and created a classic record of the genre right there. “Five Across The Eyes”, three years later, showed an evolution sound, much more clear in production and somehow more harmonic, without losing the brutality and technical prowess. But the best was saved for their swan-song. And this swan-song is called “Grime” and was released originally in 2001.
For the very first time, Iniquity had almost a stable line-up, with only the guitar player Kræn Meier (nowadays in Artillery) as the new member, replacing Brian Eriksen. They enjoyed this stability with a smooth and faster composition, releasing “Grime” only two years after “Five Across The Eyes”. And their obvious domination of Scandinavian – and European – death metal was quite obvious right from track one. Mads Haarlev turned into a monster vocalist – in technicality, spitting the words clear and fast, but also brutality and intensity, with one of the most recognizable growls, even today, in death metal. Backing it up, were ten amazing technical death metal tracks, oozing with double bass drumming and blastbeats as well as unbelievable technical details that sent shivers down the spine of every genre fan in each one of the 46 minutes of the album.
Not surprisingly, “Grime” was received with great praise from both fans and press alike and helped bringing the most technical death metal a step forward in popularity. Iniquity were definitely a hot band in the yes of the fans and extreme metal media darlings with the scene at their feet... But unfortunately, the turbulence returned to the line-up shortly after the release of “Grime” and the project disbanded two years after the album release. Iniquity returned a couple of times since then, only to play a few shows and slip back to a quiet and silent subject of cult adoration in the death metal scene. But their record legacy lives on, with “Grime” being the most accomplished, final format of their musical excellence ever recorded.
Now, for the first time ever, the final Iniquity studio album will be re-released in vinyl format, with the sound remastered at Angioni Studios, and two different LP colour variants, each limited to 300 copies: black and marbled grey/black. Those were the years where the highly acclaimed metal bands Mercyful Fate and Artillery took form. But also a few others that, in the following years, saw their career follow different paths and fates, loading to disbanding with a band or simply fading away. Formed in 1983, Copenhagen-natives EVIL were one of these bands. Their debut demo, already in ‘83, set the Danish heavy metal on fire with their heavy metal frenzy and their now-mythical 1984 EP “Evil’s Message” was the confirmation that Denmark had probably one of the strongest metal scenes in Europe back then. Unfortunately, that wasn’t meant to last and the band disappeared from circulation in 1985. A return to action was later tried in 2015, with original drummer Freddie Wolf, now on guitars, leading a new line-up that released the debut album “Shoot The Messenger”. But Evil’s career still wasn’t meant to be and the band laid dormant again... Until now! The mighty Evil is now re-born with new joining members including vocalist Martin Steene (Iron Fire, ex-Force Of Evil), drummer Henrik Molin (ex-Shadowspawn), bassist Jakob Haugaard (Iron Fire) and guitarist Nikolaj Ihlemann (ex-Nightlight), continuing the original inspirations of bands like Judas Priest and Accept. In its current re-vitalized form,
Evil has recorded ten new songs. The album, titled “The Book Of Evil”, was produced in Hellfire Studio, Copenhagen, and Antfarm Studio, Aarhus, mixed and co-produced by rewarded metal producer/mixer Tue Madsen. “We have made the new material in the spirit of the eighties but with a modern metal state of mind” Freddie Wolf says.
The band is now ready to take back a leading role among old-school metal bands. Four studio albums that put them among the best death metal bands that the Tampa scene, in Florida, has exported to the world. And we’re talking Tampa, Florida, home of the best US death metal bands. When Brutality announced, in October 2020, the band would be splitting up, the whole world was left stranded – once again – except for one person. Michael H. Andersen, Emanzipation Productions A&R, saw that as an opportunity to release a kind of a swansong for the band and approached them to do so. As Brutality had two new songs in store, the members started to, slowly, get their heads around the idea of a final release, and this is how “Sempiternal” decided to take form. “Orchestrated Devastation” and “Fluent In Silence” were recorded in studio, and Brutality decided to add two old tracks - “Crushed” and “Artistic Butchery” - which were re-recorded in 2018, and inly available until now in a limited 7” EP self-released by the band. Finally, the group included four tracks (“When The Sky Turns Black”, “Cries Of The Forsaken”, “Cryptorium” and “48 To 52”) recorded live at the Maryland Deathfest in May 2019. The result is “Sempiternity”, an album that started out as a “swansong”, but had the band leaving the door open instead of closing it once and for all. “When we were in the studio doing those songs, we realized we didn’t want to say that, to see those as our final recording”, vocalist Scott Reigel says. “And we asked Michael not to promote this as our swansong anymore… It started with us listening to the live stuff at Maryland and thinking how fucking incredible it sounded, especially with now Jarrett on second guitar.
