Post/sludge metal trio Magnitudo returns with their most ambitious work to date, ‘M A T E R I A L I S M’, a concept album that explores the crushing weight of contemporary collapse. Founded in Bergamo in 2016, Magnitudo has carved out a reputation for a sound that seamlessly bridges the atmospheric depths of post-metal with the raw aggression of sludge. Built upon oversized riffs and a devastating rhythmic foundation, their music is an extreme, physical experience defined by apocalyptic and alienating themes. The band’s discography includes two full-length albums: ‘Si Vis Pacem’ (2016) and ‘Man Against Fire’ (2018), followed by the critically acclaimed EP ‘Scotoma’ (2023). With ‘M A T E R I A L I S M’, the band draws inspiration from Zingonia, an experimental town on the outskirts of Bergamo. Conceived in the 1960s as an urban utopia, Zingonia has since become a stark symbol of urban decay, alienation, and broken promises. Magnitudo transforms this local history into a universal metaphor for the modern era: a world dominated by consumerism, depersonalization, and the triumph of matter over spirit. ‘M A T E R I A L I S M’ is not just an album; it is a sonic monolith reflecting the grim reality of our industrial surroundings.
