Hagathorn is a folk music project inspired by bewitching nature, folklore, and poetic landscapes such as old farms, fields, and forests. The name Hagathorn is the Old English and Norse word for Hawthorn, which is a tree that has very deep roots in northern history and legend. The hawthorn has been known as a sacred and magical tree since ancient times, and to this day it forms natural protective barriers, especially within hedgerows, wherein deer, birds, foxes, and other animals take refuge. Harkening back to aesthetics from days past, Hagathorn’s sound is specifically derived from various folk and classical instruments, all of which are performed by Will Ott, the creator of Hagathorn. Through historic and original folk compositions and arrangements, the music of Hagathorn is imbued with old enchantment, nature, and folklore. The spirit of Hagathorn breathes life into feelings and emotions from forgotten times, helping us to rediscover our connections to old magic and nature that is still alive within us.
