Abramelin delivers an all-out brutal Death Metal assault on the senses with “Sins of the Father”!
Arguably the pioneers of Death Metal in Australia, Abramelin have just completed their 4th full length studio album titled: “Sins of the Father”. Following on from their very well- received 2020 album, “Never Enough Snuff”, “Sins of the Father” is an all-out brutal Death Metal assault on the senses; while lyrically, it continues to push the boundaries of horror and depravity.
Originally formed as Acheron in 1988 by vocalist Simon Dower & then guitarist David Abbott, the band changed their name in in the early 90’s due to a clash with an international act of the same name. Tim Aldrige joined the band in 1989 and quickly became the main writer of music for the band, while Dower handled the grotesque lyrics. Abramelin was a powerful, driving force in the 90’s, playing alongside a host of well-known Aussie acts from various genres, as well as international metal giants like Morbid Angel, Cradle of Filth, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass & Paradise Lost, just to name a few. Although at the top of their game and in high demand, the band decided to take a break in 2003... one that would last 14 years! Fast forward to 2017, Abramelin are back and stronger than ever! After a few years of live shows in Australia, Abramelin returned to the studio for their first album in 20 years: “Never Enough Snuff”. A powerful comeback album after such a long break, “Snuff” was heavily toured nationally and very well received both domestically and abroad. Tim Aldridge, who had been with the band since 1990, had recently decided to part ways with Abramelin and did not have any input into the new album. Although some may see this as a great loss, it has opened the sound and direction of the band in a whole new way, which Abramelin are super excited about! The majority of the tracks on “Sins” were written by Matt Wilcock (Ackercocke, Werewolves) with all beats from the legendary David Hayley (Psycroptic, Werewolves). Long time member (in various guises), Rob “Wog” Mollica (Earth, Butterfly) has even chimed with a song “Last Rite” which brings some great variety in the musical arrangement of “Sins.” Inspired by 40+ years of horror fiction & film, lyrics by Simon, as they were with “Snuff”, are a deep exploration into all things grotesque and horrific in nature. With influences drawn from a variety of splatter punk and extreme horror authors, the lyrics, in usual Abramelin style, are not for the faint of heart. In order to compliment the overall horror, the artwork of “Sins of the Father” is second to none. 99% of Death Metal bands take the approach of using extreme art, but very few choose photography. With a team of nine people, Abramelin have managed to pull together an album cover that is quite unique, and screams evil in a way that not many other metal covers can. Many months in the making, Abramelin hope that the artwork on “Sins of the Father” captures the attention and imagination of metal and horror fans alike!
Abramelin will embark on an epic national tour to support the release of Sins of the Father from mid-2024.
