New album of the Norwegian pro rock trio Bresk! Inspired by prog classics such as Rick Wakeman’s “The Six Wives of Henry VIII” and Bo Hansson’s “Lord of the Rings”, the Norwegian prog trio Bresk has made a conceptual album about the dramatic life of the Norwegian painter Peder Balke. Bresk heavily relies on the prog rock sound and style of the golden age – the early seventies – to tell the extraordinary story of one of Norway’s most prominent artists, regardless of genre and era. Balke grew up in poverty in rural Norway, but astonishingly enough, he achieved, what was considered unlikely by his contemporaries, to climb the social ladder and make a name for himself as a Norwegian counterpart to J.M.W. Turner. Balke’s audiences with the French king probably represent the pinnacle of his social climbing, whereas the fact that his works still are exhibited at the Louvre proves that his artistic achievements has given Balke a well-deserved place in international art history. However, his life was marked by numerous obstacles and setbacks, for instance how his first-hand experience of the Revolution of 1848 affected his private and professional life.

    Side A :
Awakening / Napoleonic Wartime Overture / The Mountain / Sailing the Northern Coast / North Cape Arrival / Hangin' Out with the King

    Side B :
The Revolution of 1848 / Balkeby / The Fire / The End
