It mostly just made some gay people like country music again." - "With these songs, I’ve tried to explore these different corners of annual celebration; my marriage, the birth of my kid, seasons of self-reflection, the date of a death, the number of summers since the summer was RED, the busy season, the date on legislation that subverts human rights, the day you met that someone, the day you learned to cry. All of it, part & parcel. The tragedy & triumph of a human life careening haphazardly across existential terrain, erecting holidays and holy customs like the monuments of a lost tribe. We were here. We lived & we lived powerfully. May 3rd. This is the day that Hannie and I were married to each other & vowed to care for each other until we die. We’ve celebrated in a lot of beautiful places over the last ten years of marriage and this year, I get to offer you all a few snapshots of this life we are building together. Hannah painted my face and jacket and photographed me for the album cover. In much the same way, she imbued my life with color and whimsy and I am honored to still be at little art projects together after all this time. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY"
