British guitarist, singer, songwriter, and record producer Mark Knopfler was born in Glasgow, and raised in Blyth, near Newcastle, England. Best known as a founding member and lead songwriter of Dire Straits, Knopfler has also enjoyed a successful solo career that includes nine solo albums, nine film scores, and production work on albums for the likes of Tina Turner and Bob Dylan.
This new triple disc set celebrates the enduring appeal of Mark Knopfler’s remarkable career, compiling three previously unavailable broadcast recordings of Knopfler at his very best.
DISC ONE features a performance from The Notting Hillbillies, a country-rock project fronted by Mark Knopfler alongside Brendan Crocker, Steve Phillips, Guy Fletcher, Paul Franklin, Marcus Cliffe and Ed Bicknell. Recorded at Snape Maltings, England on 15th May 1990, the show is a rare chance to hear the short-lived group at their finest. Bonus cuts here come from a benefit concert recorded by the group in Newcastle three years later that also features Alan Clark on keys.
DISC TWO contains Knopfler’s excellent show in Bristol, England on 19th May 1996 in support of his first solo album, Golden Heart, following the disbanding of Dire Straits. Concluding this set on DISC THREE is Knopfler’s arena performance in Dublin, Ireland, on 15th May 2015, which was also the first show of the Tracker tour.
