Naglfar is a Swedish melodic black metal band formed in 1992 in Umeå. The band is named after a legendary ship in Norse mythology made from the nails of the dead. Initially founded by bassist Kristoffer Olivius, guitarist Morgan Hansson, and drummer Ulf Andersson, the original lineup also included vocalist Jens Rydén. In 1995, Naglfar released their debut album, "Vittra," which received excellent reviews and established their signature style of melodic black metal, combining ferocity and intricate melodies. This initial success was followed by "Diabolical" in 1998, solidifying their position in the black metal scene. In the following years, Naglfar underwent several lineup changes but continued to release acclaimed albums, including "Sheol" (2003), "Pariah" (2005), "Harvest" (2007), and "Téras" (2012). Each album showcased the evolution of their sound while maintaining the dark and melodic energy that made them famous. In 2020, after a long hiatus, Naglfar released "Cerecloth," an album that received praise for its intensity and consistency with their traditional style. Despite lineup changes and challenges over the years, Naglfar remains a respected and influential force in the global black metal scene.
