Formed in Dublin in 1976, Irish rock mega-stars U2 consists of Bono (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), The Edge (lead guitar, keyboards, and backing vocals), Adam Clayton (bass guitar), and Larry Mullen Jr. (drums and percussion).
Initially rooted in post-punk, U2's musical style has evolved throughout their career, yet has maintained an anthemic quality built on Bono's expressive vocals and The Edge's chiming, effects-based guitar sounds. Bono's lyrics, often embellished with spiritual imagery, focus on personal and socio-political themes. Popular for their live performances, the group have staged several ambitious and elaborate tours over their career.
This new triple disc collection celebrates the band’s live career as it presents three previously unreleased live shows performed by U2 during their eventful time as a musical collective.
DISC ONE here features their magnificent concert, recorded for live broadcast, in Tokyo on 30th November 1983, while touring their War album, released earlier in ’83.
DISC TWO contains the group’s October 1984 concert, recorded for broadcast in Nantes, France, a couple of weeks after the worldwide release of U2’s magnificent The Unforgettable Fire record. Featuring a good selection of tunes from the new album, alongside many classic U2 concert favourites, the show remains a fan favourite from this era.
DISC THREE brings things forward to 1987, when U2 were on their Joshua Tree tour. On September 18th that year, they were in Boston, Massachusetts, where - at the city’s Boston Garden venue - they performed an extraordinary concert, which now completes this enticing new U2 live collection.
