The band was founded in 1984 by rhythm guitarist Jon Schaffer and drummer Greg Seymour. The group's name was initially Purgatory (after a short time under the name of The Rose).
Jon was certain that the band would be a huge success and had big dreams shared with his best friend Bill Blackmon, who had suggested the name Iced Earth for the band. When Blackmon died following a motorcycle accident, Schaffer moved to Tampa, Florida, more determined to make his dream come true. The band has fourteen full-length albums to their portfolio and is famous for the great compositional quality based on heavy, power and thrash metal they produce. On February 15, 2021, three members of the band resign due to the arrest of Schaffer, involved in the assault on the Capitol in Washington D.C. of 6 January 2021. "Something Wicked This Way Comes" was originally release in 1998 by Century Media Records.
