Mighty Oaks are back with a new album and a fast-selling tour after nearly two years apart. After writing, recording, and touring extensively for the last 10 years - racking up radio and chart success while playing shows and festivals from Seattle to Budapest, and from Træna to Milan - Mighty Oaks members Ian Hooper (USA/Ireland), Claudio Donzelli (Italy), and Craig Saunders (UK) decided it was time to take a break from the band, and from each other. In Ian’s words, “we’ve had our foot firmly on the gas since 2013, and it’s been a wonderful, wild ride, but it was clear that we needed a hiatus if we want to keep this show rolling for the next decade.” Each member took the opportunity to focus on themselves, on other projects, and on their families. Claudio and Craig took the lead on a soundtrack for a Disney Documentary Series: Farm Rebellion. Ian recorded and released a full-length solo LP. Craig took up running and has since completed multiple marathons, and is set to release a solo EP of his own. Claudio pursued music production and the writing of his solo piano compositions. In the great unknown of their time away from one another though, the band found a way, a desire, to return to one another and to what brought them together in the first place: acoustic music. As Claudio recalls, “Ian called me up one day after what felt like years of us not speaking, and he said he was excited to get back to Mighty Oaks. For me it was really the same feeling, and it meant that all this time apart had been for good reason.” And so it has! A new-found energy and connection has inspired the band to approach this next chapter much like they started their journey together: acoustically. The new album High Times is a collection of 12 reduced, authentic, intimate acoustic songs, recorded almost entirely live amidst the brick and wood of Ian’s living room in Berlin. “We basically moved my studio upstairs for a couple weeks and tracked everything as raw and honest as we could” says Ian. “We wanted the listener to feel like they are there with us in the room while they hear this album” says Craig. “It has nothing to do with perfection, and everything to do with being real and honest in the moment.” Common themes of love and friendship, of life and longing flow through the album, packed into compact stories that leave the listener swept away in a dream, removed from the daily life, just as music should do. The band will release their fifth full-length album this September, and is set to hit the road for six weeks shortly thereafter.
