After a self-titled EP "Yad" ("poison") in 2020, followed by a split and demos in the subsequent years, EXIL takes a significant step forward with their debut album. The result is "Karga," featuring eight tracks that began studio work in April 2024. With a name meaning "raven," and perfectly illustrated by its artwork, "Karga" explores new horizons. Straddling the line between French black metal and Kazakhstani post-punk, this album transforms a local metaphor into a universal symbol. While the raven holds a significant place in the mythology of the Kazakh steppes, EXIL places it at the heart of an introspective work. The band embraces its dual identities, offering an epic that is both dark and luminous, sung in French and Kazakh. "Karga" is a journey into the past, a nostalgic exile where dark omens, joy, and hope coexist to create a perfect harmony between tradition and modernity.
With roots spanning from Northern France to the mystical landscapes of the eastern steppes, the quartet cultivates its unique identity within a musical universe of shadows, light, and existential questions, expressed in both French and Kazakh or Slavic dialects. Following "Rodina," which heralded this upcoming album, EXIL now presents "L'Exil." This track, bearing a name as symbolic as the band itself, features a notable guest from the international post-metal scene: Amy Tung Barrysmith (Amenra / Year Of The Cobra).
