Formed in London in 1978, Whitesnake was originally put together as the backing band for vocalist David Coverdale, who had recently left Deep Purple.
Though the band quickly developed into their own entity, Coverdale is the only constant member throughout their history.
Following the EP Snakebite in 1978, Whitesnake released the albums Trouble (1978) and Lovehunter (1979), which included the live staples "Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City" and "Walking in the Shadow of the Blues". Whitesnake soon began to make a name for themselves across the UK, Europe and Japan, with their subsequent albums Ready an' Willing (1980), Live... in the Heart of the City (1980), Come an' Get It (1981) and Saints & Sinners (1982) all reaching the top ten on the UK Albums Chart. Additionally, the singles "Fool for Your Loving" and "Don't Break My Heart Again" reached the top twenty.
By the mid-1980s, Coverdale had set his sights on breaking through in North America, where Whitesnake remained largely unknown. With the backing of American label Geffen Records, they released Slide It In in 1984, featuring the singles "Love Ain't No Stranger" and "Slow an' Easy", which furthered the band's exposure through heavy airplay on MTV.
This new triple disc collection features previously unreleased live broadcast recordings by Whitesnake, all recorded live in concert between 1978 and 1988.
DISC ONE contains the band’s superb show performed at the Brighton Dome on November 1, ’78, just a couple of weeks after their debut album Trouble had been released.
DISC TWO features two festival shows from the group’s early days too. First up, their summer ’78 appearance at the Netherlands’ Alkmaar Pop Festival on June 17th, and their Reading Festival set from 24th August 1980, played hot-on-the-heels of Whitesnake’s Ready an’ Willing album.
DISC THREE concludes this sterling set with a show recorded at Tokyo’s Yoyogi Daiichi Taiikukan venue, on 13th June ’88.
