This is DARKANE's important second album. After writing the debut album "Rusted Angel", where DARKANE didn't yet know what they wanted to sound like, they had a style to develop this time.
Christofer stated in an interview in 2001: "I like to write music that consists of technical, brutal parts that looses up to a more catchy chorus part where you can rest your ears from all difficult inputs".
DARKANE wanted "Insanity" to be faster, more melodic, just more of everything compared to "Rusted Angel". This time, they also invited a bigger choir and orchestra to record the intro ("Calamitas"), which would also serve as an intro to upcoming live shows. Lawrence Mackrory had left DARKANE after the recording of "Rusted Angel" and four live shows, and his spot was filled by Andreas Sydow.
After five intense weeks of recording at Dug Out Productions in Uppsala, Sweden, once again with producer Daniel Bergstrand, the album was finally done. The final night in the studio lightning struck the studio and broke the mixing console. That's when DARKANE decided to name the album "Insanity". After the release of "Insanity", DARKANE did their first ever US appearance at the Milwaukee Metal Fest XV, among other shows.
