MAR DE GRISES

Progressive death-doom - Chile

After more than a decade of silence, Mar de Grises are awakening.

Since forming in 2000, Mar de Grises have led the way for metal in South America. While firmly rooted in the traditions of the genre, the band are inspired by the landscape of their native Chile. With a cinematic vision and melodic touch, they bring the mighty Andes, the salty Pacific Ocean, the dreaded cold of Cape Horn, metropolitan Santiago, the lush green Valdivian forests and the Atacama desert to progressive death-doom.

Mar de Grises signed with Finland’s Firebox for their first two albums, The Tatterdemalion Express (2004) and Draining the Waterheart (2008). They then became the first artist from South America to sign with the French label Season of Mist, who released their latest album, 2010’s Streams Inwards. The album brought the band international acclaim and major tours with Sólstafir, Swallow the Sun and Saturnus, as well as festival appearances alongside Opeth, Enslaved and Katatonia.

Now, after more than a decade of silence, Mar de Grises are excited to announce that they are returning to Season of Mist, who will release the band’s long-awaited fourth album next year.

“After more than a decade of absence, we are thrilled to announce that Mar de Grises have re-signed with the legendary record label Season of Mist”, the band says. “Once again, with our new album, we are pushing the boundaries of genre. These new songs are dark and cinematic, born from the contrasts of Chile’s landscape, which stretches from the Andes to the Pacific, from the Atacama Desert to Tierra del Fuego. The wait is over. Mar de Grises are back!”.
