WITHERED s’est formé en 2003 à Atlanta en Georgie (USA) après que Mike Thompson et Chris Freeman quittèrent leur vieux groupe de Crust/Grindcore « Social Infestation ». Le duo décida d’expérimenter vers de nouvelles sonorités plus sombres, dans un style Black/Death Metal proche de Gorguts, Ritual Killer et Goatwhore.
