Ukrainians have a unique history with war, and 1914 hails from this mystical land. With their second album and a deal with Napalm Records, they deliver a compelling blend of death and black metal infused with doom elements. This music breathes trench warfare, mud, and blood, characterized by a massive, powerful production and an unwavering, muscular performance. Given their name, it’s clear the themes explored by the band are far from romantic (if they wanted to talk about love, they would have called themselves 1969!). The result is simply impeccable. At times, they charge the enemy like HAIL OF BULLETS, while at others, they slow down like a tank crushing everything in its path, reminiscent of BOLT THROWER. This is all enhanced by blitzkrieg attacks in true black metal fashion, making this album a gem of controlled violence and unleashed power. Chargeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez!
