Spanish blackened death metal quartet Akouphenom is about to release their new EP, Connections To The Erebus, through Avantgarde Music's death metal division, Unorthodox Emanations. This release marks a significant addition to the band's discography, following their 2023 debut album, Death-Chaos-Void.
Formed in 2014 in A Coruña, Spain, Akouphenom is known for their fusion of blackened death metal with elements of doom and noise, aiming to reflect absolute evil in their creations. The band's name is a twist on the word "tinnitus," referencing the auditory consequences of their intense live performances. The current lineup includes DraGon (vocals and guitars). Pandemia (guitars), Korgüll (bass), and Prgich (drums).
Coming from the same composition and recording sessions of Death-Chaos-Void, these new four-tracks EP continues Akouphenom's exploration of dark themes and complex compositions, further establishing their presence in the extreme metal scene. Starting with "Absurd Of The Arkhe", the band offers their personal take about futility and existentialism within our lives, before switching to their native language, Spanish, for "Extrema Unción" and "Abismo". These two songs, as described by Akouphenom themselves, are "a denial to christianity and the idea of a paradise after death in exchange of an entire living as sheep and following the rules. Also facing up a huge lie, and being all this nothing more than a historical mechanism to control mankind, these songs reject the blessing in the final hour. We are atheists, we do not believe in nothing, and we accept that Death is the main end."
