With Caliciuri, Cali has undoubtedly created his most intimate album to date. The title comes from his real surname—the one he set aside more than twenty years ago when he chose “Cali” as his stage name, an identity that felt lighter to carry into the uncertainty of a budding music career. It was a nickname from his childhood in Catalonia, in the village where people called him “little Cali.”
Today, after all these albums, all these concerts, all the heartbreaks, the bright moments, the disappointments, and above all the immense joys that have gradually stripped away pieces of his skin and transformed them into songs, is he down to the bone? Caliciuri. What remains of him. He could only choose this name—his real name—for an album so personal and organic, released in these perilous times when it has become increasingly difficult to distinguish truth from falsehood.
To bring this project to life, Cali enlisted the help of Fred Pallem, whose attentive ear and sensitivity elevate these new songs. Across 42 minutes, Cali, now 58, takes stock of his life and opens up with the youthful spirit of his old age. Recorded against the grain of the times at Black Box Studio near Angers, using real instruments, real amplifiers, and outstanding musicians, this album already stands as a testament to a deeply needed authenticity.
