With a name referencing Voltaire's famous phrase, Ecr.l'Inf embodies a struggle against obscurantism set against a backdrop of black metal. This project draws its essence from dark times to delve into the mechanisms of the soul and the depths of human darkness. To put it plainly: Ecr.l'Inf is a philosophical and (mis)anthropic battle led by members and former members of Svart Crown, No Return, Hyrgal, and Demande à la Poussière, as well as Ophe. Their debut manifesto is titled Belluaires. Ecr.l'Inf, meaning "crush the infamous," serves as a trial of the human soul, exploring the darkest and most vicious aspects it harbors. It shines a light on the struggle against what the band refers to as "the belluaires of the soul," confronting the ignorance and obscurantism that increasingly gnaw at humanity. This is a life-and-death confrontation, with the current world as its arena. Born from the musical reunion of Dorian Lairson and Krys Denhez (Ophe, Neo Inferno, etc.) ten years after the end of Jarell, Ecr.l'Inf quickly evolved from a duo to a quintet. This transformation began with the addition of Jiu Gebenholtz (ex-No Return) on bass, followed by Rémi Sefarino (ex-Svart Crown, Hyrgal, etc.) on drums, and finally Jean Lassalle (Jarell) on keyboards. In May 2023, the band entered the Lower Tones Place Studio (Nature Morte, Demande à la Poussière, Omrade, etc.), resulting in Belluaires: eight tracks recorded, mixed, and mastered by Edgard Chevallier.
