HELLMETALL are a Thrash / Death Metal band from Val Resia, in the far North-East of Italy, near the borders with Austria and Slovenia. With “Mgla”, the band delivers its second full-length album and presents a more focused evolution of its extreme metal identity, combining aggressive riffing, Death Metal heaviness, Thrash-driven structures and a strong historical and territorial background.
A distinctive element of HELLMETALL’s sound is the use of Resian, an ancient Slavic dialect spoken in Val Resia which gives the vocal delivery and lyrical content a unique character within the European underground metal scene. Founded by vocalist and songwriter Daniele Micelli “Picet”, the band has moved from earlier folk-influenced elements toward a darker, heavier and more direct Thrash / Death Metal approach.
“Mgla”, meaning “Fog”, is built around themes of war memory, historical trauma and borderland identity. The lyrics are connected to events from the First and Second World Wars, approached through local memory, oral tradition and personal references. Key tracks include “Mgla”, inspired by gas attacks during World War I near Bovec / Plezzo and “Gemona Btg. Doesn’t Exist Anymore” dedicated to the Alpini soldiers of the Julia Battalion “Gemona”. Other songs address themes linked to Albania, the Foibe massacres, Nazi concentration camps and Soviet Gulags.
The album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Davide Zago with drum engineering by Pablo De Biasi. The production preserves the band’s underground impact while offering clarity and consistency for riffs, drums and vocals.
