Mae Defays' music flows through the realms of soul and jazz. As a singer-songwriter and guitarist born into an artistic family straddling Europe and the Caribbean, she draws from a rich tapestry of dance and cinematic influences to create her unique sound. After honing her craft at the prestigious Didier Lockwood Music Center, Mae released two EPs, "Whispering" and "Morning Rain," and has performed at numerous festivals, including Jazz à Vienne, Jazz en Tête, and Jazz sous les pommiers, as well as opening for renowned international artists such as Macy Gray, Boyz II Men, Ibrahim Maalouf, and China Moses.
In her latest project, "A Deeper Ocean," Mae delves into the depths of both the ocean and the human soul through poetic, boundary-defying music. Concerned about the climate issues facing her generation, she aims to convey her ecological sensitivity through soulful and committed melodies inspired by nature and its fragile beauty. With her ethereal and clear voice, Mae invites listeners on a journey in this debut soul-jazz album infused with Afro-Caribbean influences, complemented by poetic visuals filmed on the island of Guadeloupe.
