Of course, Bruce Springsteen's "Blinded by the Light" had all the ingredients of a hit, but its success must have come as a surprise to both the band and Springsteen alike, as it became the first No. 1 single for both. The song captivated a whole new generation of Manfred Mann fans, with the invigorating combination of newly recruited vocalist Chris Thompson's powerful lead vocals and Mann's signature keyboard style transforming it into a modern classic rock anthem. To this day, it remains one of the most frequently played songs in classic rock history.
