Stan Getz, saxophone legend and bossa nova icon, would have celebrated his 100th birthday in early February 2027. To mark the occasion, saxophonist Mulo Francel has brought together a group of internationally renowned musicians to honor his great colleague with a spectacular album: *Let’s Getz*
Mulo Francel is a globetrotter and creative force behind the band Quadro Nuevo, renowned far beyond the borders of Europe. His concert tours have taken the saxophonist to the farthest corners of the globe—from Bari through the Balkans to Buenos Aires and the colorful city of Bengaluru. Over the years, Mulo Francel has developed his very own, authentic style of world music. With this style, he has performed more than 5,000 concerts and received numerous awards, including the Schallplattenkritik Prize, the ECHO Jazz Award for “Best Live Act,” and a Gold Record. Kulturnews magazine hails him as having “the most sensual saxophone sound in Europe.”
Francel was introduced to music through his father’s jazz record collection; his father passed away at a young age:
“When I was 13 years old, I wanted to know what my father had actually been up to. So I brought his jazz records into my room. One by one. Among them was Stan Getz & Charlie Byrd’s *Jazz Samba*. Although that album wasn’t the first to fuse American cool jazz with Brazilian music, it made bossa nova popular worldwide in 1962. I listened to it every day back then.”
