Munly J Munly is an American singer, songwriter, author and musician from Denver, Colorado. He is known for his role in developing the Denver sound, which combines country, gothic music, folk, and gospel. Munly has been a member of numerous bands during his career, including the alt-country band Slim Cessna's Auto Club and The Road Home. During his career as a writer, he has published three books, Döder Made Me Do It (2022), Confessions to Scare... (2021) and Ten Songs With No Music (2001), which are intertwined with Munly's music and the Lupercalia world he developed.
Munly's unique approach blends alternative country with gothic American music. Themes have often included religion, violence and relationships. Jimmy Carter Syndrome is his fourth solo album, which features musical contributions from distinguished Denver scene artists, including David Eugene Edwards (16 Horsepower, Woven Hand), Ordy Garrison (Slim Cessna’s Auto Club, Woven Hand), Pascal Humbert (Passion Fodder, 16 Horsepower), and Kal Cahoone, among others. Album was originally released digitally and on CD by Smooch Records, and in November 2026, Svart Records will put this timeless classic out as a vinyl edition. The artist himself is pleased that the album is also being released as an LP version almost a quarter of a century after its release.
