The second installment of the "Runaljod" trilogy, initiated in 2009 with "Gap Var Ginnurga," "Yggdrasil" once again showcases the majesty of WARDRUNA. While Ghaal (formerly of GORGOROTH) lends his vocals, any comparisons to Black Metal end there; WARDRUNA creates sacred, ancestral music reminiscent of what the Norse gods would have listened to in Valhalla. This second album is even more ethereal, with a richer Folk presence in its Folk sections and a deeper spiritual resonance in its sacred parts. Although there are no significant innovations in composition or production, the thoughtful use of timeless instruments offers a mystically captivating experience. Continuing the legacy of their previous masterpiece, WARDRUNA firmly establishes their presence with "Yggdrasil." A must-listen!
