"Light The World is a richly musical album where each instrument has been meticulously crafted before recording. Kora, flute, sokou, ngoni, percussion, balafon—every sound has been thoughtfully studied and utilized in the most modern way by American producer Michael League, co-founder of Snarky Puppy. He is responsible for all the bass lines on the album, as well as some guitars and ukulele, along with keyboards on certain tracks. Working with Michael, I discovered a wonderful person, a great artist, and an exceptional musician who brings together the best talent around him. Drummer Munir Zakee came from Atlanta, pianist Frank Locrasto from New York, kora player Momi Maiga from Madrid, and of course, my long-time partners Mbaye Dieye Faye and Thio Mbaye on percussion, Assane Thiam on Tama, and my guitarist Tapha Gaye. It was in a small village in Catalonia, El Prats de Rei, that everyone gathered to create this album, in Michael's quaint stone house with a recording studio on the top floor, in a studious, family-like, and gastronomic atmosphere, as Michael is just as skilled with a bass as he is with pots and local delicacies. I enjoyed myself for three weeks, both in the studio and at the table!" Youssou laughs.
